My name is Sara and I am a Licensed Nail Technician in Sioux Falls, SD. I run a small studio in cozy privacy at my home called Le Travail Nail Studio, and my goal is to make each person feel comfortable, relaxed, safe, and gorgeous! I specialize in structured gel manicures and nail art, and am certified in Japanese Builder Gel through Kokoist USA and Nail Thought (by Kokoist). I went to nail school back in August of 2023, at Minnesota West Technical College. After graduating the program in December, I opened up the studio and never looked back! Every day has been a great learning experience, and every new client I’ve met has enriched the learning experience!
My journey with nails started when I was 7 or 8 years old. My mom bought a bottle of Avon’s “Ballerina Pink” nail polish, and I was hooked! Growing up in a high-control religious group (IBLP), I rarely felt safe to creatively express myself as doing so caused punishment and mockery. My parents hated the smell of nail polish, so I figured that if I was painting my nails, I could have a few hours of peace and safety to just be myself and create something.
After moving states from Colorado to South Dakota, I started getting my nails done, then needed to take a step back and learn how to do them myself to save money. I invested countless hours learning how to use gel products safely, and lots of money to try all the different products and techniques (find my faves here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/30P3RD1AC7XIC?ref_=wl_share) to figure out what I wanted to do. I realized that I was interested enough in nails to pursue them as a profession. The rest is history!
When I’m not in the salon, you can find me at my day job: slinging marketing and communications at a local church. You can also find me doing lots of granny hobbies like knitting, spinning yarn, watercolor painting, and most recently, ceramics. I live with my wonderful partner, two dogs, and cat.
