Luminary Nail Systems, as we all know, is my holy grail builder gel (Get your starter kit here). The Pulse 2.0 Curing Unit (Get it here) is also my current favorite equipment since it cures my gel completely and helps me sleep at night knowing that my clients don’t have uncured gel seeping into their skin.
I was excited when Luminary announced that they were releasing a dust collector, because I’d been saving up for a replacement of my current dust collector from MelodySusie (which hasn’t gone out on me yet, but I always like to be prepared.)
Every product has pros and cons, so I never expect any product or equipment to be entirely faultless. Let’s list them out and you can decide for yourself.
Pros:
- Luminary AIRE Dust Collector is aesthetically beautiful.
- Has a larger surface area on the collector grate than a lot of other dust collectors.
- Easy to clean.
- Seems to have a powerful motor.
It might just be because I haven’t used it for very long and am maybe not using it correctly, but this equipment has been a bit of a miss for me. Here’s the…
Cons:
- So much louder than any dust collector I’ve used. My clients and I have noticed that it sounds like a jet engine. It does make conversation difficult.
- Doesn’t reduce dust in the air as much. I haven’t mentioned my personal thoughts to my clients about it, but I have had several bring up that they thought my old dust collector worked better. In the instruction manual, they recommend holding the client’s hand directly above the equipment to maximize effectiveness. I have tried positioning the unit every way I can and hold the client’s hand above the unit to make sure the dust goes where it’s supposed to. Unfortunately, the dust just seems to cling to my shirt, face, and hands. I am always down to trying other ways to make it work, but so far, it hasn’t been worth the investment.
- Speaking of investment cost: for the $198.95 price tag, I would have expected more effective suction and for it to feel more luxurious. The lightweight plastic, super loud motor, flimsy filter, and lack of a warranty were a big turn off for me.
I truly wish this product had worked better for me, and debated even posting this review, but I value realistic honesty above just excitement over something new. I still very much believe in Luminary’s gels and curing lamp, but I wouldn’t recommend dropping your hard earned cash on this one. I’m still on the hunt for a dust collector I love, but for now, my go-to is still the MelodySusie (which you can find Here). I feel a little bad from spending so much on something I don’t love, but I’ll keep using it and trying new things to see if it changes my opinion. If anyone has tips on how to work the AIRE better, please feel free to email me (letravailnailstudio@gmail.com). I really do want to love this launch.
Hugs and kisses!
